With 1.3 billion people and a middle class that's roughly the size of the U.S., China's startup investment opportunities are enormous. Already some of the most significant recent IPOs by technology companies are from China, including SMIC (NYSE:SMI), Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU), and KongZhong (NASDAQ:KONG).

Mayfield has been actively investing in Chinese entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley for many years. Our journey to investing in China began in 2003, which led to a long-term partnership with GSR Ventures. Since then, our two firms have collaborated on raising two funds of almost $300 million, assembled a world-class team with cross-border operating experience and invested in several early-stage companies in the semiconductor, Internet and wireless sectors.
