As the name suggests, planting lots of "seedcorn" can give rise to many strong trees. We understand that in today's environment, for some entrepreneurs, a little capital can go a long way. We are actively involved in selecting and providing seed funding to companies across our sectors of expertise, with our most recent seed investment being Jaxtr. We provide active mentoring to our seed investments, but typically do not incubate them in our offices or take board seats.

In addition, we continue to work with Entrepreneurs/Executives-in-Residence (EIRs) to incubate promising technologies - a Mayfield hallmark since 1984. Mayfield's EIRs are the "best and the brightest", have deep domain experience and are a magnet for talent. Our EIRs complement our partners' in-house knowledge, working closely to shape technology, build strategy and leverage our combined access to customers, markets and technology.

Together with our EIRs, we develop the best ideas and access financing for the resulting companies. For example, Mayfield jump-started company creation by incubating MIPS, Millenium and more recently, Casabi, Sylantro and TrueDemand. Today, we continue to seek out those early-stage entrepreneurs and provide them with the resources to transform their ideas into lasting companies.
