Since Tommy Davis, known as the
dean of venture capital,
founded Mayfield in 1969, we have been at the forefront of the venture capital industry, constantly creating and investing in disruptive technologies. Over our 37-year history, we have created 100s of companies, mentored many of Silicon Valley's luminaries, partnered with all our top-tier venture capital brethren and built a world-class team.
The arrival of the personal computer brought a major transformation to the systems, semiconductor and storage sectors. During this era, Mayfield helped create industry leaders such as Compaq, Lam Research, LSI Logic, Quantum, SanDisk and Silicon Graphics.
With the launch of Ethernet came the delivery of seamless network communications. Our notable legacy investments in this sector include Alantec, Crescendo, 3Com, Interwave, Packet Engine, Rapid City and Redback Networks, many of whom went on to become successful public companies. More recently, the acquisition of Peribit Networks by Juniper Networks created a networking leader.
In enterprise software, we have invested in companies through the mainframe, client-server and Internet eras, including BroadVision, Legato, Nuance, Pure, TIBCO, Vantive and webMethods.
As the Internet has become integral to all our lives, Mayfield has invested in a variety of consumer-oriented technology companies such as Military Advantage, PlanetOut, Revenue Science, Snapfish and Varsity Group.
Today, we continue to partner with innovative entrepreneurs to turn technologies into businesses and businesses into legacy-creating companies.
